Spruce up your sugar bowl with this simple and easy recipe for Vanilla Sugar. With only one vanilla bean, you’ll have a delightful treat, spoonful after spoonful.

Sometimes it’s the simplest things that can add a bit of zip to a ho hum recipe.

Take Vanilla Sugar, for example.

This is one of the easiest recipes I know of to add a bit of punch to plain sugar. There’s something deliciously wonderful when there’s vanilla present.

The basic recipe is two-fold: sugar and vanilla pods. It’s that simple, quick and easy.

Vanilla Sugar can also be used in a variety of ways. Use it in your favorite coffee drink, holiday baking like Shapas, Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream and more.

You’ll definitely enjoy the taste of sweet vanilla with this deliciously simple recipe for quick and easy homemade vanilla sugar, that’s perfect in coffee, on buttered toast, or even on fresh baked cookies.

How to Make Homemade Vanilla Sugar Recipe

Cut a vanilla bean down the length of the pod then tuck the whole thing, pulp and all, in a sugar bowl. The sugar will take on the flavor of vanilla in about 24 hours.

Now that’s fast!

Ways to Use Vanilla Sugar

But you might not know that Vanilla Sugar can be used in a variety of ways. Here are just a few:

  • confectionary recipes
  • dessert recipes
  • coffee recipes
  • dusting for cookies, scones, cakes
  • baking recipes
  • topping on toast
  • alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks

As you can see, I’ve just scratched the surface for using vanilla sugar.

But why use vanilla sugar? When you add this to, say, cookies, coffee, scones and more–well, you get layers of flavor that you wouldn’t have with just plain sugar.

Recycle Used Vanilla Pods

Besides offering a richness to many desserts, drinks and more with little work on your part, you might not know that those same vanilla pods can be upcycled and used to make Homemade Pure Vanilla Extract. Now if you’ve ever priced a bottle of pure vanilla extract, you’ll understand why one would want to make it homemade.

That’s one less cost to baking. And, you saved big bucks by using something that you’d normally send into the trash.

So the next time you’re in the mood for something sweet, pull out your Vanilla Sugar and add a bit of zing to your favorite recipe. Enjoy!
