This mild, homemade Taco Seasoning Mix recipe is made with rich Mexican-inspired spices that you can use on chicken, beef, and shrimp, as well as mixed in dips and sauces.
How to Make Taco Seasoning Mix Recipe
Why buy store-bought taco seasoning when you can make yours at home. It’s quick and easy, and best of all, you determine what goes into your mix or not.
My recipe for homemade Taco Seasoning Mix makes approximately three tablespoons (3 tbsp) of dry spice, which is a little more than those store-bought packets. And, it can last years if kept in an airtight container.
Best of all, it’s so versatile. It can be sprinkled on beef, chicken and seafood, as well as on tacos, dips, and chips.
Because you only need one tablespoon (1 Tbsp) per pound of meat to season sufficiently, you have three times the amount to use for different recipes.
Taco Seasoning Mix Ingredients
The reason why I created this seasoning mix is because I wanted mine to be based off authentic Mexican spice blends that draw out the goodness of whatever you’re cooking.
Unlike taco seasoning packet ingredients, my recipe is keto-friendly and gluten free. No sugar or additives are added, which is a healthier choice because you know what’s in this spice blend.

How Long to Store Taco Seasoning Mix
Like many spices, you can store this seasoning mix for years if you want. Keep in mind that spices don’t spoil, they just lose their flavor and move toward bland or blah if you store them for long periods of time.
You will need, however, to keep your spices sealed in an airtight container.
My recommendation is to make enough that you think you will need for the next month or two. Since this is a really easy mix to assemble, it won’t take long to gather the necessary spices and make another batch—or two.
So what will you use this Taco Seasoning Mix for? Enjoy!
