Stabilized Whipped Cream recipe uses heavy whipping cream, cream cheese, powdered sugar and is a great frosting, dessert dip, or garnish.
There will be times when you do not have access to store bought whipped topping and need to substitute it with something similar. This stabilized whipped cream recipe is the perfect substitute when you find yourself in this situation.
What Is Stabilized Whipped Cream?
Stabilized Whipped Cream isn’t a commercially produced product like store-bought whipped topping, but it is made with ingredients that are usually found in most homes.
Instead, this type of whipped topping starts with heavy whipping cream with a couple of additional ingredients that give it stability to keep its shape for longer periods of time.
You can use this in place of regular frosting or plain whipped cream. It has a lighter texture and flavor but has the right thickness to frost everything from cupcakes to multi-layered cakes.
The magic ingredient is cream cheese that has been properly softened (think room temperature).
When mixed with heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, you will have yourself a creamy, dreamy frosting that’s to die for!
This is especially important if you are wanting to make a dessert a head of time or if it is going to be out of the fridge for a long time.
If you were to make regular whipped cream, it would break down and become runny. But this version holds its shape.
Still with any whipped topping dessert, it’s always best to try to keep it chilled as long as you can before serving–for best results.
