If you cook a lot and want to keep your spices handy and fresh, here are five of the best spice bottle storage ideas you can use at home today.
Because I cook a lot I have to keep my spices handy and fresh. After a bit of investigation, I found some truly inspired spice bottle storage ideas for my home that you too will find inspiring.
I have to admit that my spice drawer has been my life-saver for keeping my herbs and spices close at hand. The drawer is located near the stove, and I only have to take a step to get to whatever I need at a moment’s notice.

But then I got to thinking. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to store their spices in such a way. Space might be an issue, or maybe a person wants their herbs to be more front and center. Still others like to take a more decorative approach. So what to do?
Regardless of how we like our spices, there are some things that are considered essential for keeping the contents fresh as long as possible.
So be sure you:
- Keep spices out of direct sunlight. The best places to keep them are in a spice cabinet, drawer or in your pantry.
- Keep spices in a tight, sealable container. Air breaks down the essence of these spices, plus allows for off-odors to creep in and taint your spice.
- It’s best to put spices in clear containers. That way, you can see the spice itself and identify it quickly. But you can’t or don’t like the look of it, spice tins are just as acceptable.
- Collect your spices prior to your heavily baking and cookings times (like Thanksgiving and Christmas) so that you won’t run out of your key ingredients.
- But don’t buy more than you will need. Believe me, I know from learning this the hard way. Because the fresher the spice, the tastier it will be.
Also if you are like me and want your herbs and spices to be stored in a handy location, then you’ll love these spice bottle storage ideas for your home:
1. Countertop Storage
Seeing is using, and if you hide your spices among the canned goods, you’ll never use them. Trust me, I know. This spice stacker is perfect for most homes because it stores 30 spice bottles of various sizes and drops down so you can read the labels. Nice. It also keeps the spices in dark storage to keep the spices fresher longer.
2. Coke Crate Spice Storage
I love the idea of repurposing old objects and this Coke Crate idea is wonderful. Not only does it evoke nostalgia but is also vintage chic, something that is really trendy nowadays.

3. Spice Drawer Organizer
If you lack the availability of countertop space, then this expand-a-drawer organizer is perfect. Again, the spices are kept in the dark but when the drawer is pulled out, the spices are easily read and accessible for cooks.
4. Canning Storage Jars for Spices
Mason or Ball Jars are perfect for storing spices. Now with the beautifully tinted bottles, these will keep your spices fresh. And, with a little bit of spray paint and some chalkboard paint, you can make a super spice organizer that is both practical and eye-catching. Better yet, you can vary the sizes of your spices, if you need bulk storage and place them on a shelf, in a cabinet, pantry, or drawer.

5. Spice Rack
This three-shelved wall-mounted spice rack is great if all you have available space in your pantry. You could also mount this unit to the outside of a cabinet, or even inside the door of a cabinet. Obviously, the more preferred way is to store your spices in darkness, so mounting the rack inside a cabinet or pantry is best. But that being said, do what works out best for you.
One final note…you know spices are only as good if you use them. So my last tip for storing spices is to only buy herbs and spices you know you will use. There’s no sense in wasting good cabinet or pantry space with spices that you don’t like and that you’ll never use.
