Simple homemade oven baked tortilla bowls that you can make yourself. Ready in 15 minutes.

Oven Baked Tortilla Bowls - Wisconsin Homemaker

If you are tired of the same old flour tortillas and hard taco shells and want to add a bit of wow to your taco fixings or burrito bowl, look no further than my homemade oven baked tortilla bowls. It’s a simple and easy recipe that takes less than 15 minutes to make from start to finish.

My love for tortilla bowls has been ongoing for many, many years. It all started with a drive-thru at a national restaurant chain hawking taco salads. I got hooked on the crispy fried shell filled with yummy layers of meat, cheese, salsa, and guacamole. Yup, it was addicting.

But the truth was these tantalizing but filling taco shells were deep fried and I wanted to do something “healthier” for my family.

Thus, the idea of baking tortilla bowls came to mind. If you scroll to the bottom of the post, you’ll see that these bowls are the real deal, sans tons of fried oils and have only 90 calories per bowl. Sweet!

And, what’s more, you can really load these bowls up with lots of delicious veggies, healthy grilled or baked meat, like carnitas, homemade salsa and guacamole.

Are you hungry yet? I am!

To start: this is a relatively simple recipe to do at home and really doesn’t take much time to bake. As mentioned above, it only takes about a total of 15 minutes to make, beginning to end!

So why not make a bunch and include it as part of a taco or burrito bar. Your friends and family will definitely dive into these wholeheartedly. They’re that good!

Want to spice up your bowls a bit? Brush this butter mixture on the outside {or inside} of the bowl as soon as you remove them from the oven with these ingredients: butter, cumin, cayenne pepper, with a pinch of salt. Serve.

How to Make Homemade Oven Baked Tortilla Bowls

Start with eight flour tortillas that are at least 8 inches. You can vary the size based upon how large you want your bowls to be, but this is a good size to start with.

Then you’ll want eight oven-proof soup bowls and some non-stick spray.

After preheating your oven to 425 degrees F, spray both sides of your tortillas and tuck them neatly into each bowl. You can then place the bowls on a rimmed cookie sheet, or as you see below directly on the oven racks. Bake until lightly golden brown.

At this point, you’ll want to remove the baked tortilla bowls from the soup bowls. Remember, these are super hot! I like to use a pair of tongs to do this task.

Let them cool on a cake rack. Finally, serve them up on a platter and fill with your favorite salad fixings.
