Old Fashioned Sour Cream Cucumber Salad has been a family favorite vegetable salad recipe for over 80 years. Ready in 15 minutes or less.

Sour Cream Cucumber Salad

You know there are some family recipes that span generations and my Sour Cream Cucumber Salad recipe is one of them. It has been made for over four (going on five) generations yet is one of the simplest salad recipes I know that never loses its flare.

Maybe that’s why we serve it up at all family and holiday functions, BBQs and at everyday meals. My hope is that you’ll love it as much as I do and will make it a part of your family’s recipes, too!

And, since cumbers are available year-round, you can make this recipe anytime you want. It’s easy to do at the same time you’re making dinner. It’s the perfect quick side dish.

How to Make Old Fashioned Sour Cream Cucumber Salad

To make this family favorite recipe, you’ll want to know these basics:

To feed a family of four, start out with three large cucumbers. Always buy fresh ones. They work the best in this recipe.

Cucumber and peeler

Peel then slice using the slicer side of your box grater.

Add 2 teaspoons of salt to the cucumbers and let them sit for 10 minutes.

Next drain the cucumbers in a colander and squeeze out the excess liquid.

Then, place the cucumbers back into the bowl and add 1 to 1 1/2 cups of sour cream along with 2 teaspoons of garlic powder. (Add more garlic powder to taste.)

Mix well and keep chilled until serving. Enjoy!
