Make rich and creamy homemade hot chocolate mix that you can gift to others with minimal supplies.

This hot chocolate mix comes together in a jiffy and is a welcomed gift for all occasions.

You can make small batches for stocking stuffers which is what I will show you below.

Or… you can also take it with you on your next outdoor excursion to your favorite sledding or ski hill.

Just preassemble all of the ingredients in individual jars that allow for the addition of hot water. Seal with covers. Then, bring along a thermos with boiling water.

Since the cocoa mix is in it’s own decorative Ball mason jar and the recipe uses instant milk, all you have to do is add hot water (1/2 cup to be exact), cover the jar again tightly, shake well, and drink!

As you can see, there’s so much to love about making your own hot chocolate mix at home.

This recipe comes together pretty quickly. I like to make multiple batches and give them away as stocking stuffers to my friends and family.

Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix Gift Ingredients

To Make:

Layer each ingredient, starting with the cocoa and ending with the mini marshmallows.

Recipe Tip: I prefer to use Dutch cocoa because it’s super rich and creamy.

I’ve provided the ingredient amount (see recipe below) for a single serving size. This recipe requires an eight (8) ounce jar for a 1/2 cup of hot chocolate mix.

For larger servings, just double up on the ingredients and jar you will be giving.

However, if you are doing a large quantity of gift jars, then you might want to mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl, except for the marshmallows and chocolate chips (they seem to always drop to the bottom of the mix–UGH!) and then measure out the mix for each individual jar. The marshmallows and chocolate chips can be added last..

This Hot Chocolate Gift Mix is very portable. You can take it and make it right in the jar itself.  Just add hot water, cover tightly, shake well, and drink.

Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix Gift - Attach decorative covering

Finally, it’s time for you to decorate the jars.

Here you can see that I’ve used a festive cloth covering, a gift tag with mixing instructions and a jingle bell.

Note: To easily attach the cloth around the jar, you can use a rubber band to hold the cloth in place. Then, tie your tag on with colorful string.

The hot chocolate mix can be made in the jar or in a mug. Just add 1/2 cup of hot water and mix well. Enjoy!

Hot Chocolate Made with Real Milk (Home Version)

This recipe is so simple to convert to real milk. You will, however, want to use one cup of hot milk per serving.

Once the milk is heated up on the stove in a small saucepan, mix it with cocoa, powdered sugar and chocolate morsels. Mix well, then pour into a large mug.

Top with marshmallows and enjoy!

Use This Hot Chocolate Mix as Part of a Hot Chocolate Bar

Here’s another great idea to use your Homemade Hot Chocolate Gift Mix. Include this hot chocolate mix as part of a Hot Chocolate Bar for your next gathering or party.

It’s a fun way to get your guests involved in making a deliciously decadent hot drink.
