Holiday Veggie Pizza Wreath with a Twist
I love holiday parties, especially ones that I can pull myself away from the kitchen and visit with my friends and family.
That’s where I got my inspiration for this recipe. It first started with one of my site’s most viewed holiday appetizers: Crescent Roll Candy Cane. I loved how my family and friends gathered around the platter and noshed at will.
Definitely no work on my part. The hardest thing I had to do was put trays of crescent candy canes in the oven, slather on the cheese mixture, dust with broccoli and serve hot.
Then, came my “AHA!” moment when I thought about taking this recipe to the next level–this time a veggie pizza.
And, rather than use crescent rolls, I decided to use a pre-made Stonefire Artisan Pizza Crust. (Note: You can use any brand that you prefer, however.)
To give it that holiday twist, I created a wreath design.
It was simple enough to do. I just used a glass to outline the center and cut it out of the pizza crust.
Then, whola! center hole removed. Now I had the beginning of my pizza wreath.
Cooking Tip: Don’t waste the center piece. Bake it for an instant dipping chip or make it into a mini-pizza.
Next, I scored the pizza wreath. Doing so helps to show where to place my sliced roasted pepper, as well as making it easy for serving. Here’s a view of a scored pizza wreath. Then, before you put any toppings on it, baked your pizza crust in preheated 450 degree F oven for about 5 minutes to warm through. Then remove and cool it slightly. Cooking Tip: I used a pizza screen with this recipe because it allows for even heating and makes the pizza crust nice and crispy.
Time to make the cream cheese mixture. First, start with softened cream cheese, some sour cream, garlic and onion powder. After you mixed everything together well, use a large frosting knife to spread the softened cream cheese mixture across the pizza wreath surface. Next, slice roasted peppers length-wise and divide them up evenly. Place these at intervals, almost like pie slices around the diameter of the wreath. Then, sprinkle on some dried dill weed for a punch of flavor and color. Finally, add small broccoli florets between the pepper slices. Here’s the finished view of the Holiday Veggie Pizza Wreath. Beautiful, isn’t it? See, I told you it was simple and easy appetizer. Remember that you don’t have to keep this appetizer recipe just for the holidays. It’s delish any time of the year. Enjoy!
